"A Matter of Justice" – A Spirit & Place Performance
Wednesday, November 10, 2004     7–9 p.m.

The IHS and Freetown Village, Inc. have partnered to offer this Spirit & Place program, which recounts the life of John Freeman, an African-American businessman falsely accused as a runaway slave in 1853. The performance explores not only the history of the Indiana Supreme Court, but also demonstrates the importance of working together to build a just world where everyone shares an equal sense of belonging. FREE.
 
The IHS exhibit Politics: Beyond the Ballot Box and the Freetown Village traveling display A Matter of Justice will be open for viewing from 6 – 7 p.m.

  

One World In Music Concert: A World of Rhythm
Sunday, November 14, 2004     3 p.m.

Join us for the first concert in a three-part journey of musical discovery for children of all ages. Hosted by musician Cathy Morris, the series will feature regional musicians, singers and dancers and will identify and explore global similarities between cultures and history through music, dance and song in an informal, interactive setting with audience participation. Experience drumming from African, Indian, Caribbean, Cuban and Latin cultures and see how they have evolved into our music of today. Tickets are $6 adult; $4 child; $20 family. Church Records Genealogy Workshop
Saturday, November 20, 2004     10 a.m.–noon

Family history enthusiasts can learn about the importance of understanding church records and explaining their historical background by nationality and denomination at this informative workshop presented by genealogist Lloyd Hosman. The Search for a Place and a Time to Paint: The Stories of Ada Shulz, Alberta Rehm Shulz and Marie Goth

A special presentation of the "Sharing Hoosier History Through Stories Series," Stephanie Holman will share the personal stories of three Brown County Artist Colony members who found the place and the time to paint. This story was commissioned by the IHS and Storytelling Arts of Indiana in support of the new IHS Press book Skirting the Issue: Stories of Indiana's Historical Women Artists. Enjoy this hilarious Christmas film written and narrated by Hoosier author Jean Shepherd about Ralphie Parker's antics and his quest to receive a Red Ryder air rifle for Christmas. Shown on the big screen at the Indiana History Center Theater. Tickets are $6; $5 IHS members; $4 children.
 
  

Breakfast with Clara and the Nutcracker

Begin the holiday season by joining Clara and other characters from the ballet The Nutcracker Suite for breakfast, activities and a special performance in the theater featuring excerpts from Butler Ballet's enchanting production of The Nutcracker Suite. Activities include photos with the dancers, cookie decorating, snow globe making and a reading of The Nutcracker story. Tickets are $21 adult/$19 adult member; $19 child/$17 child member. Participate in Las Posadas, a Latino tradition, sponsored in conjunction with the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art. The evening will begin with family activities and informational areas about the Latino culture sponsored by the Mexican Consulate, Fiesta Indianapolis, and the Writer's Center of Indiana. A candlelit procession, which will be led by a choir and Jose and Maria re-enactors, will begin at the Indiana History Center and conclude at the Eiteljorg Museum where celebrants can enjoy hot chocolate, pan dulce (sweet bread), pinatas and live music by Cool Chilies.
